Interactive Web Pages

I have enjoyed making these pages and websites and it has definitely opened my eyes to the endless possibilities of computers. There is so much to learn and discover and I look forward to taking more computer classes to strengthen my knowledge. I learned a lot and could not believe what I could do using the computer.

Interactive Site

Well I think it might be a little far fetched but quite possible. The idea of controlling a personal vehicle from any location, is amazing. Lets say your out in town and there is no parking. All you do is take out your cell phone and tell your vehicle to drive home or to another location and wait for the call. When you are done, you summons your vehicle, which drives you home even when you have had an extra drink or two. I think the possibilities are endless here and I’m sure there is someone looking into it. Just look at the vehicle that won the race from the midterm.

Style pages

I had such a great time styling my index page. Its interesting to see just how these procedures are done and that I can do a little of the work that professionals do. It definitely was a little confusing because there was no audio with the video but after several hours, I figured it out. It is very time consuming and sometimes I wanted to pull what little hair I have left out of my head. These are the basics so I can imagine what the advanced procedures would be. I think my page looks pretty good and hope that everyone likes it.

Need a Vacation

I am so overdue for a vacation. At this point I will go anywhere that is warm. I could really go for a trip to Hawaii. I went there for my honeymoon in 2004 and cant wait to go back. Hawaii I believe is like no other. I have been to many tropical destinations but there is something that sets Hawaii apart. Everything is beautiful and all of the people are friendly. One thing I will say is that everything is expensive so bring a full wallet or checking account because you will need it.

When I went we first stopped at Honolulu, which was nice but all I really wanted to see there was Pearl Harbor. That was unbelievable to see and it brought chills down my back when I saw the oil bubbling up from the water. It is definitely a site that all must see. Then we went to Maui, boy was that place tropical and amazing. We had such a great time there and we did not want to leave. We did many excursions on Maui and a lot swimming before heading over to the Big Island. That place was very different because it was wide open with lots of rock. We saw the volcano and climbed over the volcanic rock left behind when the volcano last erupted and devastated the island. It was a great trip, which we plan to duplicate probably on our 25 anniversary.

Warmer Weather

I can’t believe it is getting cold already. It seems like I dint even spend enough time outside enjoying the rays. I don’t think I went to enough cookouts or parties. I don’t know if I am just getting too old or the summers are getting shorter. Whatever the issue, I miss the sun.
Sometimes we think about moving to a warmer climate when we retire but at that point the kids will be dug in and have families. I think what we will do is buy a vacation home somewhere warmer and then eventually retire and go back and forth from the two homes. That way we will have the best of both worlds.
The hard part is where to pick, how far away, how much and how big. It would be nice to rent it out for a while and make some money but I’m sure that will come with some headaches. I have been thinking about North Carolina or South Carolina. All I hear are good things. It is warm, beautiful and not too far. The only problem is that they run the risk of hurricanes so flood insurance would be expensive. So anyway that is a dream of mine , I just have to start saving for a down payment.

Fedback

I created my feedback form after watching the YouTube videos. It is definitely interesting to see how it is done and actually do it myself. It was easier than I thought and I am aware that we are performing basic steps. I will admit that some of the things we have done have been slightly challenging and quite time consuming.
I received some feedback regarding my website and it was very positive. One of the students commented that it was a great website and that she loved my pictures. She gave me a rating of 5 for the website. It is great to be able to create these forms and have people make suggestions or just make comments. It definitely will improve how I do things. I think that it is a great tool to use and everyone should utilize other peoples opinion. A different set of eyes could look at something in a different manner and improve something that you never thought of. Feedback is very important for any website and should be taken very seriously. Every company should have this feedback form on their site.

Web Apps

The web application that I selected is Joongel.com. I found this while searching the internet for applications and it seems very interesting. The web site is similar to Google but makes searching a little easier by selecting the top ten search results in a particular category. This is helpful if you are not very good at searching for the best information on the web.
The web site home page has a picture and link of the most popular websites like Google, Yahoo, Twitter and Wikipedia. It makes it so easy to select one and go right to it. The user can look at the categories on the left and then pick one of the It also has a drop down window which brings up numerous categories that can be selected. One is selected and you are brought to another screen. I selected movies and two boxes appeared and allowed me to select a movie or brose a movie database. I chose this option and it brought me to IMDB, which is very good and I have used it several times in the past. I think this site might cut some time off the searching and allow you to get right to the point.

Internet and the Media

The Internet has changed the way we see the world on a daily basis. We now have access to all kinds of information from across the country and the world. We can view news stations from other countries. Numerous companies can show off their products and sell them directly online. I check reviews of vehicles, restaurants and many other services right online and even book or order it the same day. Many companies can advertise their products on other websites, like goggle and you tube. It is fascinating when you can enter a product or a subject and all kinds of things pop up. So many people can be reached form a computer, in an office, in the middle of nowhere. Many people choose to read the news online instead of buying a paper. Online is usually free and easily accessible.

I think the copyright laws are necessary but not to be used against a person downloading a song for their ipod. They should be used against people selling or making money from a particular product, video or image. I think that once you place your information or product for all to see than everyone should have the right to use it or download it.

Greatest Gifts

I think the greatest thing that has happened to me is the birth of my two children. It is funny when I think back to a time when I did not have children. I would look at other families and dream of my own family. People have said that when a child is born it is an amazing feeling that can only be felt when it is your child being born.
Almost three years ago, my first daughter was born and it was awesome, the feeling of being a father. I made this little person and would be responsible for teaching her the ways of life. I was so exited to have the opportunity to be a dad and I know my wife felt the same way. The time has flown by but it has been filled with many memories, which I will never forget. The first step and the first word, its amazing. I think one of the greatest feelings I had, was when I came home from work in the morning and my daughter was waiting at the top of the stairs for me. She was so happy and exited to see me, it swept away any problems from the night. I forgot about the dregs of society I had to deal with.
About five months ago, my wife gave birth to our second child, another girl. The feelings were the same and I cant wait for her make some memories. These are two girls I am responsible for and I couldn’t be more proud to be a dad. Both of the children are happy and will be brought up in a loving family with many cousins to play with. I look forward to all the things that life will bring us.

Im Ready



I am so ready to go away on vacation. I could use a nice cruise, to relax and soak up some rays. Sit in the hot tub and jump in the pool. I almost forgot about having a cocktail and spending some time with my wife. This is just a dream right now because I have two small children. I think the next cruise I will be going on is the Disney Cruise, which will be a whole lot of fun. I know my daughters would love it. Just seeing them have fun, is fun for me.

I like to travel and so does my wife so in a few years will do more but the children are to small to travel very far. My three year old has been to California and Arizona but taking two would be tricky. The amount of stuff needed is unbelievable and time consuming to put together. We look forward to taking the kids to Disney in Florida but that will be several years from now when they both can enjoy it. So for now we take day trips or one-night stay overs, which are fun. It is difficult being away from the house with two small ones because all of the essentials are there.

Take a look around you when you go outside and I’m guessing that you will see a person that you just shake you head at. What is wrong with this person? Why would this person put himself or herself in this position or better yet anyone else? This video shows a lot of stupid people doing stupid things. This is why there are so many people getting hurt or killed. Little kids see dopes doing stunts like this and try it themselves and get hurt. These are the things that people talk about. This is one of the reasons people believe motorcycles are so dangerous. I think that if a rider is careful, his ride will be a safe one. Of course the other drivers are a concern but that comes with driving your car as well. On a motorcycle you need to be on your toes and back off a little more form vehicles.
I have a motorcycle, not a racing bike but a cruiser. I barely ride it but wouldn’t think of behaving this way. I would love to ride it but with two children it is difficult. Someday I will enjoy taking it out again. Cruising the streets, enjoying the sound of the wind.

Homebrewing Beer

            I definitely enjoy the taste of a good beer and I am sure there are many of you who do also.  About a week and a half ago I embarked on a new adventure, homebrewing.  Now I know what you are thinking, terrible tasting beer, but it is the total opposite, its fresh, full of flavor and a lot of fun to make.  This idea all started last year when my brother and I brewed some beer at Incredibrew in Nashua.  At Incredibrew you pick a style and recipe and they help you brew it, its fun and the beer is delicious.  Before that, I did not think it was possible to make my own beer.  I don’t even want to go to the liquor store and buy commercially made beer anymore. 

            So I went to a cookout a couple of months ago and a mutual friend had brewed a batch of beer at his house and brought it over.  The beer was a light style but was very good and hooked me.  I then decided to order a couple of beer making kits online from morebeer.com.  This website has everything and gets good reviews.  The order came in and we brewed a nut brown ale, which is fermenting, in a bucket, in a closet.  I will bottle it next weekend and it will sit another two weeks for the carbonation to build up.  After that the beer gets chilled and then tasted, hopefully it is drinkable.

Internet pros/cons

            The Internet had definitely changed the way that we communicate with our family and friends.  It is so easy now to send a quick email or watch what is going on in other people’s lives through facebook.  I think it is good and it is bad too because there is not the same connection.  I feel that talking to someone in person means so much more but in this fast paced world you need to keep up with the times or you will fall behind.

            I laugh when I see or talk to people that have hundreds or even one thousand friends on Facebook.  I don’t think they are even friends.  Would these people come and get you in the middle of the night if you were stranded, I don’t think so.  Everyone should also be aware that once you send an email, its too late to take back and it could come back to bite you.  Things talked about and pictures on facebook could also be used against you so people need to be careful and just have fun by communicating with friends and family.  It is unbelievable how you can stay connected with someone across the country or around the world.

Internet

I think that the Internet is a very important tool that most people use on a daily basis, one way or another. Some people shop for items online and other may take online courses or doe research. I am one of the ones who do both, surf the web and take online courses. The online classes are ideal for me because I have a hectic schedule, working the midnight shift and taking care of two children. Going to an actual classroom just would not be an option at this time. I have taken many online classes at Middlesex and Umass and have learned a great deal from the classes and other people. I have definitely learned a lot from the different search engines on the web. You can find just about anything you need or want to learn about on the Internet.




I think the Internet has enhanced more peoples lives due to the fact that getting on line is very easy and even if you don’t have a computer most libraries and cafés have them. More people are taking online classes because now they can earn degrees no matter what there schedule. I really could not imagine life without the Internet, I use it all the time.

ME

Well I guess I will start by saying that I am 34 years old, am married to a wonderful woman and have two beautiful children. I am employed by the Massachusetts State Police as a Trooper. The job definitely has stress but sometimes I believe being a parent is far greater. I put a lot of pressure on myself to be the best possible father I can be. I get worried about my girls growing up in this crazy and dangerous world but I have to just raise them to make good decisions and it all will work out. I have a large extended family, which helps out when needed


I love going to work everyday and working with the guys I work with. I work the midnight shift, which I believe is the tightest shift at our barracks. We all look out for each other and are basically family. We have a great Sergeant who leads the way and helps us out. I could not have asked for a better job. I have been on the job for five years but was a Correction Officer prior for six years. This job definitely did not come easily and there were no freebies. I had to earn it the same way that Troopers did many years ago. The six month live in training was tough and long but well worth it because I have a job that I dreamed about since I was a kid.
